Resting on the banks of the Rio Segura is the historic Spanish town of Algorfa. A town steeped in history, Algorfa was under the rule of the Moors in the 8th Century AD to the 13th Century, when King Jaime I recaptured Alicante and the surrounding areas.

These areas made part of his newly created Kingdom, Valencia. In 1714 at the end of the war of Spanish Succession, Algorfa was striped of its autonomous privileges and was incorporated into the Kingdom of Spain.

Algorfa is a typical Spanish town with a beautiful central square overlooked by a charming Neo-Gothic church and is lined with Child friendly bars and restaurants serving both Spanish and English food. There are plenty of small shops and amenities around Algorfa that will take care of your day-to-day needs such as Banks, Pharmacy, Butchers, Bakers, Post Office, Hairdresser, Hardware and Electrical stores, Garden Centre, and a small English Supermarket.

A traditional market is held on Wednesdays in the central market square and on a Sunday, a larger one, which sell fresh fruit and vegetables from the Veja Baja.

Only 35 minutes from Alicantes El Altet Airport and Murcias San Javier Airport and surrounded by miles of fragrant Orange and Lemon Orchards, is the rural spanish town of Algorfa.

The whole area is one of outstanding natural beauty, with miles of protected nature reserves, wetlands, dunes and scenic areas. The nearby La Mata National Nature Reserve and Conservation area is famous for its resident flamingos and wild birds. The beauty of the area is enhanced by The Sierra de Crevillente Mountains, which provide a dramatic backdrop.

Algorfa offers a charming rural setting, while at the same time putting you within easy reach of Blue Flag Beaches. Algorfa is also within easy reach of a wide choice of golf courses.

The road networks surrounding Algorfa are excellent and give you quick access to Torrevieja, Alicante and Murcia. The easily accessible motorways head North to Valencia and Barcelona, West to Madrid and South to Andaluca and Cartegna, providing plenty of shopping and things to do, for the whole family.
